The Krzysztof Kieślowski Archives

The Krzysztof Kieślowski Archives

The Krzysztof Kieślowski Archives is a project of the In Situ Contemporary Art Foundation, which aims to acquire, digitalise, protect and secure archive resources connected to the body of creative work of one of Europe’s most outstanding directors. This Archive would not have been possible without the practical support and trust placed in the Foundation by Mrs Maria Kieślowska, who provided donated materials from the family archive. They were the basis upon which the living archive of the memory and legacy of the director was built and developed in Sokołowsko, the seat of the Foundation. It is a laboratory of encounters with cinema and the creative basis of the author of the “Three Colours” trilogy.

The intention of the Foundation is to create the only place in the real and on-line world which comprehensively collects, stores, researches and distributes archive materials related to Krzysztof Kieślowski. It will be a venue for workshops, residencies and conferences offering a profound and deepened insight into the meaning and influences of Kieślowski’s voice, which still resonates in European cinema.

One of the Archive’s main goals is to restore and digitise archive material, and to archive and secure the source materials. A further aim of the Archive consists in launching research and art projects in collaboration with the archive and using its resources as well as exhibitions and publications.

There are plans to develop the archive in the direction of cooperation with culture and art institutions, museums, libraries, universities, research centres, film units and film schools in Poland and abroad.
